Webb’s current live projects include:
Quintet Blue
Pianist Alex Webb leads this group with a front-line of two of the UK’s greatest jazz improvisers: tenor saxophonist Denys Baptiste and guitarist Nigel Price. Together they celebrate ‘jukebox jazz’ – the bluesy, swinging jazz of the 1950s and 60s, with a repertoire of pieces from Wes Montgomery, Kenny Burrell, Ahmad Jamal and others, as well as more recent works from Charlie Haden’s Quartet West.
The band is normally completed by Mikele Montoli or Jack Garside (bass) and Shaney Forbes or Alfonso Vitale (drums). Formed in 2021, so far the group has played to full houses at Pizza Express, Brasserie Toulouse Lautrec, The Vortex, Eastside Jazz Club, the Bear Club and others.
Lulu Pierre
A recent arrival on the London jazz vocal scene, Pierre has proved herself to be a classic Torch Song stylist with the sass of Nancy Wilson, and the swing of Sarah Vaughan – and a knack for heartbreaking ballads too. Alex Webb’s Trio provides tight and carefully worked-out arrangements for standards and originals, as well as some surprising non-jazz repertoire choices. ‘Brilliant vocals by Lulu backed by an amazing set of musicians. Thoughtful and great songs choices in the set’ – DesignMyNight review.
